Welcome to the first of my "Travel Together" series. This series offers solutions for when you and your (potential) travel partners want to travel together, but something is holding you back. First up: DIFFERENT BUDGETS.
So. You want to travel with your friends. One of you prefers Champagne spends and the other is Two Buck Chuck.
Is it possible? YES!

| All signs point to YES! |
Let me give you an example from this summer. Two clients, both traveling to Zermatt. One loves 5-star luxury hotels; the other prefers to splurge on experiences and save money on lodging. But they are indeed traveling together, and they will be sightseeing together each day.
THE SOLUTION?
One stayed at a luxury 5-star hotel with one Michelin key, while the other stayed in a vacation rental about two blocks away.
And both had a fabulous time!
Another idea? Stay in the same hotel, with one of you in one class of room and one in another. You'll walk in the front door together, and then you'll each head to your own room. And most importantly, you'll each pay a price you're comfortable with.
CAN YOU DO THIS?
Sure! Your travel style is your travel style, and your priorities are yours alone. You're not sleeping in the same room anyway, and you can meet for (or after) breakfast to begin your day exploring together.
HOW TO DO IT?
(1) Be forthright about your respective vacation budgets. You don't have to share all your dollars and (financial) "sense," but you need to be clear about whether - if you're Champagne - you'll be comfortable with "perfectly fine" (versus luxury) everything AND/OR whether - if you're Chuck - you'll be comfortable with an oversized credit card bill when you get home.
(2) Airfare and lodging are typically the two biggest trip expenses. If you can separately find airfare and lodging that you're both comfortable with (and I'm confident that you can), that's an easy solution!
(3) Compromise! It's only one trip, and if it's important to both of you, you'll figure it out. Maybe you take a shorter vacation, or maybe stay in a fabulous hotel only part of your trip and crash in a VRBO the other half. Just be sure that the compromise is fair both ways because your long-term relationships are more important than this trip.
DOES IT WORK WITH ANY KIND OF TRIP?
Pretty much. Taking a self-guided trip, like my clients who went to Zermatt? Of course. Luxury cruise? Definitely -- choose a departure, then select the room class that makes sense to you. Flights? Coordinate dates, then book your own tickets at a price point that works for each of you.
Not sure how to make this kind of trip happen? Call me, and I can help you navigate this tricky situation. Figuring out these kinds of logistics is a Curated by Karla LLC specialty!
