Okay, okay, you say. We all know you're offering a series of Curated Staycations in Europe this summer, Karla, but you haven't told us what YOU are doing while we are vacationing together. What's up? How does this all work?
HERE'S WHAT'S UP!
Curated Staycations are a concept I've been dreaming of for a while. The idea is to merge the ease of a group tour with the joy of independent travel.
After registration is complete, guests are sent an itinerary with a curated selection of hotels at a variety of price points, plus a carefully researched selection of activities each day -- i.e., the matrix of lodging and activity options I designed. Then I book your selected hotels and any activities requiring advance registration ... you book your flights ... and I create a digital itinerary customized just for you that is accessible right from your phone.
Okay, okay ... that's all very cool. But Karla, you'll be there too, right? What will you be doing that whole week?
EXCELLENT QUESTION!
First, I'll be onsite to assist with logistics. Not sure where your excursion meeting point is? I can help you find it. Traveling solo and want someone to check in with every day? I'll be staying in your same city, and we'll have a plan in place for check-ins and the just-in-case. Don't want to be on your own? You can join me for my entire itinerary -- you don't ever have to be alone if you don't want to be!
Secondly, I'll be on vacation, too ... in the same city as you. So for Staycation: Scotland, which begins in only SEVEN WEEKS from this writing, this is how I plan to spend my time:
- meeting the local creatures: Highland Cows are so adorable -- and I have a date to meet them!! I also hope to see dolphins and seals and maybe even a puffin! (And maybe some castle ruins along the way!)
- biking and boating: Leisurely biking with a local guide and seeing the sights by boat might be the highlights of my trip!
- two one-day-trip excursions: For one day trip, I'm joining a local tour company for a small group trip through a section of the northern Highlands that would be difficult to visit on my own. For the other, I plan to take public transportation to a nearby coastal town for exploring, a little hiking, and a boating experience to see more wildlife. (But I've included many options for Staycation: Scotland guests to consider -- I see you, my whisky friends and Harry Potter fans!)
- exploring Inverness: I love museums and walking, and I plan to walk around the city -- both on the included walking tour and on my own. A hop-on/hop-off bus is also available in Inverness, and that's a great way to see things a little farther afield or for those who prefer not to walk quite as much as I do.
- sampling the local food and drink: I'm a total foodie, and I love to sample local cuisine! And of course, Scotland is known for its whisky, and there's a distillery right in town, plus the Speyside region -- home to the highest concentration of distilleries in Scotland! -- is only about an hour away.
And most importantly, I plan on enjoying my time in northern Scotland. Truly ~ enjoying~ my time. I love unstructured time ... to nap, take pictures, visit bookstores, watch the water (and the people walking by), observe the flora and the fauna ... basically to let serendipity happen.
