The world is a very small place, as I'm often reminded.
Last month, I was in the village of John O'Groats, population 300, and I met a delightful British lady who did her student exchange at the University of Alabama. I said, well then you'll know where I attended school -- LSU!
Turns out, we were in college at the same time! Even attended a football game "together" ... though we were then decades from actually meeting in real life.
So how did we meet? Well, after I'd gone for a walk along the northern Scottish coast, I decided to walk to the top of the hill on the way to my room, just to see what was up there. It was the campground! While there, I saw two precious dogs out walking their people, so of course I said hello (to the dogs!). And their people included the lady who'd attended Alabama (and her charming husband).
We were all in John O'Groats for the same days, from Sunday through Friday, so we bumped into each other several times ... and each time, we ended up chatting for close to an hour. We discovered we've even vacationed in several of the same places, including the island of Jersey in the Channel Islands, one of my favorite places -- and that we both would love to move there!
We were fast friends for sure!
Traveling does that to you. I often hear from friends and clients how they meet people along the way who suddenly become their people. Sometimes the friendship is as passing as one beer at the pub, sometimes the friendship lasts a lifetime. But you just know when you meet your people.
The world is small. Explore it. Find the joy. And meet your people along the way!
