I'm not one to make resolutions -- not challenging ones, anyway. I'm not very goal-oriented, and for me, making resolutions is a sure way to accomplish the exact opposite of whatever I really want to do. So instead, I will dream dreams and make wishes for a very happy new year.
Dream and Wish #1: Attend a Carnival Ball in Venice.
You know I love fancy dresses, and what could be fancier than a costume ball in the city of Venice, Italy? Venice is quite possibly the most magical and romantic city in the world, with its beautiful canals and charming "streets." With no cars or bikes allowed, walking and boating are in store for any visitor to Venice ... and parading in a historically accurate gown, complete with a handcrafted Venetian mask? That would simply be a dream come true!
Dream and Wish #2: See puffins in their natural habitat.
For as long as I've known about puffins, I've wanted to see one. I don't think I've ever seen one -- not even in a zoo or nature center! I've been to places where puffins live, but it's either been the wrong season or they were simply not cooperative. Spending most of their lives at sea, the opportunity to see a puffin during nesting season is time-limited ... especially for someone like me, who lives thousands of miles away from where puffins live and breed. Seeing a puffin? Yes, please!
Dream and Wish #3: Attend a horse race as a spectator.
Sure, sure ... this will be my third year attending the Louisiana Derby with Chapeaux. But on race days with Chapeaux, I'm talking to customers, meeting horse owners and racing fans, and helping people select the perfect locally designed, hand-crafted hat or fascinator to complete their race day outfit. In 2025, I'd like to attend a race as a spectator, wearing a cute dress and a fabulous fascinator -- made by me, of course!
Dream and Wish #4: Enjoy cheese and chocolate in Switzerland.
Some girlfriends and I used to meet for cheese and chocolate fondue evenings a few times each year. From that sprung the idea of having fondue -- in Switzerland! In May 2020, we had a full two weeks planned ... and we all remember what happened to vacation plans in May 2020: CANCELED. So I'm dreaming of a second chance in the summer of 2025: a little cheese, a little chocolate, and a whole lot of gorgeous Swiss scenery!
Dream and Wish #5: Bringing my Curated Staycation vision to life!
Over the past 35 years, I've taken a lot of vacations -- both on my own and with groups of varying types and sizes, plus a combination of these styles. One of my retirement dreams -- in addition to helping clients plan their perfect vacations -- was to create a new style of travel that I call a Curated Staycation. This is a #DreamInProgress: 2025 will see if a Curated Staycation is a travel niche that people enjoy and in fact achieves my goal of merging the ease of a group trip with the joy of independent travel. In its initial year, I have four Curated Staycations on the schedule, with a maximum of 36 available spots -- and as of January 1, 2025, those four opportunities are nearly 25% booked. Talk about a dream come true!
