International Calling Tips

A few more tips ...

* A couple of weeks before your trip, call your carrier and see what's included in your plan. For instance, my plan already includes international texting and data, with 20 cent-per-minute calls. This is enough coverage for me. If you don't have sufficient coverage, this is the time to add it.

* Check out whether an eSIM card will work with your phone instead of purchasing and installing a new physical SIM card.

* Turn your phone on airplane mode while you are out adventuring -- this saves battery life AND prevents unexpected roaming charges!

* Plan to use WiFi when possible -- most airports, hotels, and even tour buses offer free WiFi these days. Some airlines offer free WiFi with certain credit cards or memberships (but check before you board!).

Advance planning and taking the rights steps are key to preventing unexpected charges while enjoying your much-needed vacation -- both while away and after you get back home!
